While recent reports of Oculus working closely with Samsung on creating a VR headset for smartphones has been rumored, it turns out the Oculus Rift DK2 is already showing signs of a mutual relationship between the two companies.

iFixit, the popular site best known for providing repair guides and tearing down electronic devices, has revealed the Oculus Rift DK2 surprisingly uses a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as its headset display – literally! Not only does the front panel come stamped with the familiar Samsung logo, but even comes intact with its touchscreen control capability, cutouts for the camera, sensors, and home button.

The display is a significant improvement over the previous Oculus DK1. At 5.7-inches, the Galaxy Note 3’s Super AMOLED display pushes 960 x 1080 resolution for each eye and is overclocked from its original refresh rate of 60Hz to 75Hz. This higher refresh rate modification allows for smoother motion, and “low persistence” to reduce motion blur typically found in. Check out the video below for a walkthrough review of the Oculus Rift DK2.

It should be noted, that when the consumer version of the Oculus Rift is finally released it is expected to use its own custom display panel.
