This 2014 Golden Joystick Awards took place this week at the London’s O2 Arena with more than nine million votes cast from the gaming public to crown the best-of-the-best in the gaming industry for 18 categories ranging from Best Gaming Moment, Innovation of the Year, and Game of the Year — just to name a few.

The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset took home the award of the Innovation of the Year for the second consecutive year in a row. Among the contenders, Oculus beat fighting for the prize were nominees like Sony’s Project Morpheus, Microsoft Kinect 2.0, Sony’s Remote Play, and Twitch at this year’s event.

Palmer Luckey, Founder of Oculus VR, was also included as one of the nominees for ‘Gaming Personality of the Year’ – however, lost to PewDiePie who currently has over 30 million YouTube subscribers and is the most viewed YouTube channel of all time. However, don’t feel bad for Luckey, earlier this week he was honored during the 2014 Smithsonian American Ingenuity Awards with the Youth Achievement Award.

Last month, Oculus debuted its new Oculus Rift ‘Crescent Bay‘ prototype, however no word yet on when the consumer version of the Oculus Rift will be available. Stay tuned for more Oculus updates, as it develops.
